Margaret commenced legal practice in 1995 and has over two decades of experience in legal practice. She practices in civil litigation, disputes, commercial contracts, and employment. She has a Master’s degree in law with honours from the University of Auckland.

Her areas of specialty are:

  • Disputes between neighbours including boundary disputes, rights of way and other easements, fencing, encroaching trees and structures, nuisance, harassment
  • Civil proceedings in the District Court, High Court and Appeal Courts
  • Claims in tort and contract including negligence, nuisance, negligent misstatement, breach of privacy, breach of contract, misrepresentation, mistake
  • Equitable remedies (including fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, undue influence, unconscionability, restitution, unjust enrichment, estoppel, injunctions and other urgent relief)
  • Alternative dispute resolution including negotiation, mediation and arbitration
  • Disputes involving property, leases, companies, trusts and estates, negligence claims against professionals
  • Company advice – shareholders agreements and constitutions, shareholder disputes, director duties, sale of shares, liquidation
  • Commercial advice – terms of trade, independent contracts, sale of business
  • Employment, including personal grievances, drafting employment agreements and policies, advising employers on procedure in the context of disciplinary matters, restructuring and redundancy, and health and safety, representing both employers and employees at mediations, the Employment Relations Authority, the Human Rights Commission and the Employment Court, Worksafe (OSH) investigations and prosecutions
  • Insurance law: professional indemnity claims, leaky buildings / Weathertight Homes claims and insurance disputes
  • Debt recovery, enforcement, insolvency, bankruptcy, and liquidations
